Waving to passing automobiles

It was always an inside joke in my family that my dad knew everyone on Kauai. I remember when I was a young boy riding in the passenger seat of his black 1970 Chevelle. I remember rolling down the window and putting my arm out the window so my hand rested on the roof of the car. As cars would pass, I would sneakily raise my hand and wave. If you from Kauai, you know that everyone waves back. We must have passed 20 cars at this point and everyone was waving back to me. My dad had no idea I was doing that and he unknowingly thought he knew everybody that day. My dad returned every wave until he found out that it was me that was waving first. It was small memories like these that we remember 30+ years later.
